Frequently Asked Questions and Tips
Q: Visiting your Homeopath
A: Your first visit to your registered & qualified Homeopath will involve a complete detailed questionnaire which will provide
an overview and some insight into your medical history and specific needs. Information regarding the reason for coming in or CC. (chief complaints),
history of traumas at any level, family history, what other form of treatment receiving and medications if any.
Determining the proper homeopathic remedy involves investigating and evaluating all subjective and objective symptoms that you are experiencing
in the context of your physical symptoms, individual life circumstance and environment.
Your Homeopath will review your medical history and during the initial consultation called Case Taking, your Homeopath will examine through
dialog, active listening and physical assessment all details relevant to your specific case.
Case taking is a diagnostic tool unique to Homeopath's. The first consultation with a new patient, which generally takes from one to
two hours, this will provide the patient freedom to express his or her symptoms without disturbing the flow of information. Promptings at this
point in the case taking will be encouragements to say more and to ask what else is relevant. In this way, the patient identifies the problems
for the Homeopath within his or her own frame of reference.
This is extremely valuable information for the Homeopath as prescribing a remedy is based on the unique symptoms as opposed to the
common symptoms of the illness.
Q: What is an Allergy?
A: An allergy is a sensitivity to a certain substance which, in similar quantity, is tolerated by non-allergic people.
The allergen is the specific protein substance that a person is allergic to. The presence of this allergen in the body causes a series of
chemical reactions in the immune system which result in individual signs & symptoms.
The tendency to be allergic is inherited; the actual allergy is not inherited. Some people may have a sensitivity to certain agents and a
mere inconvenience while others may have a full blown allergic reaction to the same agent, like peanuts or white flour that will cause the throat to swell shut.
Our body's immune system helps keep us healthy by producing disease-fighting antibodies. These antibodies are capable of destroying harmful
foreign substances like viruses and bacteria that cause disease. In people with allergies, these antibodies are over stimulated and react to
normally harmless substances.
There are many triggers that can launch an allergic reaction, like air borne dust or pollen, certain foods that are ingested and agents that are
taken in through the skin from touching infected surfaces or chemicals.
